A month has not yet passed since schools have opened, and 32 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed by 29 schools in Alberta. Some of these schools stated that physical distances were kept and there is frequent sanitation, so the prospect of shutting down the schools is minimal. However, there are still concerns amongst many parents, caregivers and guardians about the well-being of their children. In order to alleviate some of those concerns, we have compiled a list of measures that will help children stay safe at school and home.
Recommendations to stay safe:
Watch for Flu-like symptoms such as; coughing, shortness of breath, sneezing, congestion, hoarse voice, sore throat or difficulty breathing.
Be an example of proper hand hygiene by constantly washing your hands and teach children about washing their hands.
Encourage physical activities such as taking a walk, going for bike rides, stretching or have a fun filled dance session.
Ensure to wash reusable non-medical masks when children arrive from school. Also, encourage children to change into new clothes.
Lastly, this period can be stressful for children because they are experiencing a lot of change in a short period of time. You can help children cope by facilitating virtual social interactions with their friends.
